They finally reeled me (and I was glad)
Hi
It’s been a hectic two weeks as we prepare for the sold out UK Gold Event this weekend (UK Gold Event)
It’s been like Christmas here as boxes keep arriving with things we need for the weekend, giveaways, surprises and more
Look out for updates from the event itself including online video!
** They Finally Reeled Me (And I was glad)
Last Friday evening Karen and I went out for a meal and to listen to a Jazz/Blues singer who was performing at the same place.
Nothing unusual in that?
However the reason we went was purely down to marketing… not outstanding marketing, but consistent, relevant and good marketing.
About 12 months ago I was looking for a restaurant in or around the Chester area and joined a number of email lists for more information.
However only one place has ever kept in touch consistently with a newsletter.
That place was called ‘The Oak’ in a little village named Kelsall.
Over the last 12 months or so they’ve consistently delivered a Newsletter about what’s going on in The Oak, what’s new, the menu, promotions, updates, etc.
The Oak is what I’d call a Pub/Restaurant done very well.
Each month I read the Newsletter and delete it *BUT* each time I read it I think “We must try that one day”.
Well, that day finally came when they sent an update to the usual monthly email describing the artist that was playing that week.
That was the email that tipped me over and I rang to book a table.
We had a great evening, the food was first class, the service was excellent and the atmosphere relaxed. As a pub/restaurant they have it spot on with all age ranges catered for.
The restaurant was busy all night and the pub was as well.
The big learning points from this are:
- The Oak is over 45 miles from where we live.
- Think about the number of places between where I live and The Oak who must do a similar evening BUT haven’t captured my details or kept in touch.
- Despite the new economy the place was packed.
- It was the consistent marketing that finally made me take action and book a table.
If they had only sent one email, or not kept in touch at all, then I doubt if I’d ever had remembered about it and certainly not gone 45 miles out of my way to go for a meal.
How often do you email your clients, customers and prospects?
Think about it.
We now plan to go back with my parents (when Dad’s back on his feet after his knee replacement!) and a few friends.
That probably means several hundred pounds in income over the coming months for them that they wouldn’t have had without their email marketing.
