On page tests to increase conversions of sales or signs ups, and a bit of SEO!
I promised you an update on a couple of tests I’ve been running to try and increase on page conversions for either a sale or a lead generation request (EG fill in name and email to receive something).
I did this test to see if I could increase conversions BUT I have seen a side effect that has helped with on page SEO as well (more by luck than design—hey at least I’m honest!
This is the simple test you can do yourself.
Whenever you put an image on your page you have the ability to put a description for that image called the ‘alt’ tag.
On one sales only page I put a call to action as the description: EG
"Reserve your copy of X today"
"Download the secrets to X today"
"Why miss out, reserve your copy of X today"
The site I used it on was for an ebook that had been converting at around 2.5% & with the new alt tags it went up to 3.5% … a full one percent…worth the time taken for the extra changes.
The second test I did was to include my page keywords as the ‘Alt’ text for the images on another one of our sites. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but Google has started to return images in its search results.
The page I included them on has seen an increase in traffic and an increase in page ranking in the natural search results.
