Increasing the value of your ebook – An underused simple idea
I love ebooks, they’re simple to create, highly targeted (when you get your research right) and aimed at the right market they are often an impulse, no brainer, purchase.
However in most markets the ebook is usually priced between $20 and $40.
Yes, I know you can pay more…the most I’ve paid for an ebook is $197… but in most niche markets away from the business market or markets where the book shows how to make a return on an investment (property, stock market, etc) they are priced in the £20 to $50 range.
One way to increase the perceived value of your ebook is to position it not as an ebook but a searchable database or resource.
If you’re selling your book in PDF format this is VERY simple to do.
Did you know that all PDFs are searchable by keyword?
Simply enter in the keyword you’re looking for and the PDF will then return all instances of that word in your book (Much like ‘look up’ or the ‘find’ function in MS Word.)
By positioning your ebook as a searchable resource that your buyer only has to type a word in to find what they are looking for immediately differentiates it from the humble ebook.
Therefore increasing the perceived value, and of course the price.
I’ve used this technique to take an ebook selling at $19.97 to now $37.00 and one at $27.77 to $67.
All I did was change the way the book was to be used.
Remember, people want quick answers to their questions (in most cases) and a quick searchable database is easier to use than reading a full book.
Simple.
