A simple, powerful guide to growing your online business
On the Internet Marketing Review Forum a Member asked about the ideal results they should be looking for in terms of visitor numbers, conversion rates and profit levels.
The reply I put received positive feedback so I’ll leave here for you as a parting reminder about how you can grow your business.
Here’s my post in full
They are good questions to ask and the how “long is a piece of string” does come in I’m afraid as all markets, all keywords and all prospects are not created equally
For example as you develop you may find that you can use CPM advertising or fixed term advertising on high traffic related sites which can send you tens of thousands of visitors in a week or even a day.
In a hypothetical example I could ask “would you spend £1 million on advertising on 5 sites this month” (yes a month)
Now, the first gut reaction of many people is no.
Wrong.
By investing £1million you make a return of £2million…. “now is it worth it?”
Yes.
I deliberately used a big number to drive home the example, and now bring it down to spending $500 per month on paid advertising.
Ok, next question… “You now break even with front end sales, is it worth it?”
Still yes, as you now have a database of people who bought your product AND prospects on your list.
You make offers of other products to your buyers and prospects and this now becomes profit…plus on the front end a percentage of people would have taken the upsell. This can be used to take a profit OR to reinvest back into acquisition.
Conversion Rate
You will see that these will vary depending on source. For example PPC (pay per click) traffic has always converted lower than traffic sent to a site from our own email.
Affiliate/partner traffic (endorsement) again performs better than most paid media because of the recommendation angle.
For example we had one landing page convert at 93%…yes 93% of visitors to opt ins recently from partner driven traffic.
Another converted at 75% (partner driven), another converting at 22%, (ppc driven) and one converting at 32% which is all natural search traffic of articles, blogs etc (no paid or partner traffic).
Different markets, different traffic sources, different results.
This comes back to what Neil and I always say is that there is no ‘one’ method of bringing people to a site that is ‘best’ and should only be used.
The core of your marketing should be your Blog(s), articles, affiliate, PPC and video when starting off…put these into a schedule and form a habit of doing them (or have others do bits for you when you can.)
Questions:
- Are you doing just 3 blog posts a week? – you can do more
- How about at least 2 articles a month – you can do more
- What about contacting 3 potential affiliate people per day (using a template email for starters?)
- Shooting two videos (live or camtasia) and submitting them per month? (Create a powerpoint presentation of your article, re-purpose what you already have)
- Create a new product every 3 months (every 2 months would be better
If you did the above in one year you would have:
- 156 blog posts
- 24 articles (plus syndication on 100s possibly thousands of sites)
- 1095 potential affiliates contacted (Maybe 110 signed up, 15 sending traffic and 3 super affiliates making the big sales for you)
- 24 videos (plus syndication on 100s possibly thousands of sites)
- 4+ new products
This would give you a TREMENDOUS business foundation that will last you YEARS.
Motion beats meditation….in simple Wigan terms that means ‘doing stuff gets results’.
And I will guarantee that by doing just the above you will see increases in your business in leaps and bounds (not gradual) as you hit on some home runs such as a super affiliate, your article being syndicated on a high traffic site, someone seeing you everywhere online and inviting you to be a guest expert on a show (Ask Gold+ Member Neil Maxwell-Keys about this).
Use PPC to drive traffic quickly to your page and monitor sign ups, immediate sales and then the sales cycle (in time) for those on your list.
Then as you become more confident of your own abilities and your conversion rates move out into paid media past PPC.”
My final question is this.… “which of the above are you doing on a regular, consistent basis?”
