Last week I went on an Aston Martin driving day which was fantastic fun, adrenaline pumping and cemented the fact in my mind that the DB9 is my favourite car.

Time to go shopping soon me thinks!

We spent the day driving the Vantage DBS, (DB9) DBS, the DB9 and DB9 Volante…I’ll put pictures up soon.

Anyway, on the way back Karen and I decided to ignore the motorways and head home using the A and B roads stopping off whenever we wanted.

About half way home we came across a roundabout that was a hive of activity with a pub by a canal side, a big garden centre and set back to one side, a sort of craft village that had been set up in old barns and out buildings.

A quick whiz around the roundabout and we parked up to explore.

I spotted a simple (very small!) wooden structure that was selling some food and ice creams. The main headline on his board was:

“Ice Cream £1″

That’ll do for me and off I went to get two.

As I ordered he asked a simple question.

“Hi, it’s £1 for one scoop or £2 for three scoops, which one do you want”

Brilliant.

Of course I had three scoops… I had chocolate chip cookie and Karen, rum and raisin.

He had just doubled his takings from that one simple question.

Because I’m a serious marketer …

… or just a geek as Karen called me

…. or simply because I wanted to sit down

I decide to watch his stall for a while and during the 20 or 30 minutes I was there EVERY SINGLE PERSON who ordered an ice cream took the three scoop option for £2.

That simple up sell statement is making him a small fortune as long as he remembers to ask it. He could have simply put a sign up that would have brought some sales in, but it is the introduction of that simple question that is making his very small stand a very handsome profit.

So, the lesson here?

Easy.

If you don’t have an upsell option in your business you are leaving profits behind.

It doesn’t have to be complicated, it doesn’t have to be technological advanced… BUT it does need to be asked.

Your aim for this week, put in an upsell into your business asap.

At this years UK Gold Event http://www.UKGoldEvent.com/invite I’m running a very special session on profit and conversion techniques where you’ll see many different ways to bring in even more profits into your business.

On Sunday, I sat down mid morning to catch a little bit of the Open Golf Championship which has been held at the Old Course, St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.

Fantastic drama over the four days, with conditions and the course playing a part in a truly magnificent competition.

In the end Louis Oosthuizen (a relatively unknown South African) ran out a comfortable leader, and a brand new winner had their name engraved on the trophy.

However, it was something that was said in the pre-playing commentary that made me prick up my ears and take notice. Dale Hayes (South African Great Golfer) talking with Hazel Irvine was commenting on what a good player Louis had become and revealed that his 3 year stint in Ernie Els’ Golf Academy had significantly brought his game on. You see even if you’re naturally talented or have a flair for something, everybody still needs to be coached and guided.

Whether you’re football star, tennis player, golfer or entrepreneur your skills, talents and mindset still need some direction.

Many people believe that they can go it alone, and while belief and self reliance are key ingredients to being successful… so is having someone in your corner who can help elevate your productivity, develop your ideas to their full potential and accelerate your journey to success.

Now without me sounding too deep in this note, please bear with and let me draw a couple of comparisons between the game of golf and being a self employed entrepreneur.

1. You have to be very self reliant
2. You are responsible for the results you get
3. It takes practice and dedication
4. Repetition develops the skills that you need
5. If you’re top of your game/niche then you will earn a fantastic fortune
6. Players and entrepreneurs need to be coached
7. Advice from a trusted advisor is necessary to achieve great results, whether that’s being coached off the course or taking advice on it from your caddy.

Another fantastic insight into the mindset of these successful golfers was also discussed and that was the need to see others succeed in order to source inspiration and reignite the desire to win.

A couple of weeks ago, Graeme McDowell (NIR) won the US Open at Pebble Beach, California. Now Graeme & a young, fantastic player by the name of Rory McIlroy (NIR) are best of friends. Having both grown up in Northern Ireland they share a passion for golf. Both are professional players.

Rory had a solid tournament over the weekend, finishing third. On his first round he shot an incredible 63… during his interview after this amazing round he said seeing his best friend win the US Open a couple of weeks earlier had made him believe that winning a major was closer than he thought.

It was with this mindset and inspiration that he took on the St Andrews Course this last weekend. Only one round on Friday where he shot an 80, scuppered his chances of winning his first major.

But despite the set back of one poor round he showed the resilience and determination to battle on and finished a very credible third… earning £250,000 for the pleasure!

Seeing other people succeed and listening to their stories and instruction is a key way of developing your own business… just as it was for Rory McIlroy & Loius Oosthuizen.

If you are in need of some inspiration and motivation to go along with your determination, or you simply want to press the flesh with some the UK’s hottest entrepreneurs, then you should take a very close look at the upcoming event we’re organising… The UK Gold Event.

We’ve assembled an incredible line up of successful entrepreneurs to share their stories and blueprints on how they managed get their business off the launch pad and earning money.

To discover what marketing and money making lessons you’ll learn go to

www.UKGoldEvent.com/invite

… and find out what line up we have for you this year.

Best wishes

Hi Pete Moore here…I work with Neil and Neil and every now and then they let me loose!

Here are 5 simple list building tips you can use to add more subscribers to your email list.

List Building Tip 1 – Add More Email Optin Boxes To Your Website

Sounds simple enough, but few people actually do it. If you have a 100 page website, you should have 100 newsletter subscribe boxes on your website.

You can integrate a subscribe box just about anywhere on a website or add a pop up window (still very effective.) You could add one just before an article starts, in the middle of an article or even at the end of the article.

As long as you have good content on your website, you won’t have a problem getting people to subscribe to your newsletter or free report offering etc.

List Building Tip 2 - Offer A Useful Hard To Resist Gift

I’ve have a bit of a problem with offering freebies to get people to subscribe to a list, but I also know it does work well if the free offer is something that will help or be useful to the visitor.

Why do I have a problem with it? Well I really want buying subscribers not freebie seekers to be signing up for my newsletter.

The best way to offer a freebie is to create one yourself and not something you have reprint rights to with 500 other people. You want it to be unique, and you want it to be something that compliments your newsletters topic PLR is fine because you can make it unique.

Do you know what makes a good bonus? Back issues of your newsletter!

List Building Tip 3 – Use Free Viral Ebooks To Get New Subscribers

Want to get lots of new subscribers for your ezine without spending a penny on advertising?

You can create an ebook as a free product for everyone, or just give the book to other website owners in your niche with reprint rights to the product so they can sell your product while making 100% commission in the process.

I prefer the reprint right route because people are more likely to read and value a book they have paid for. Just make sure your details are all over the ebook and that its in pdf format so it can’t be changed.

The goal really isn’t to make money from the book, it’s to get more exposure and subscribers for your website.

So find a group of publishers in your market, let them know you created a new ebook with sales letter that they can use and plug straight into their website and give them a mailing promotion to use and tell them they can have the book for free and that they can either sell the book or give the book to their customers as a bonus etc.

List Building Tip 4 – Do Audio Interviews With Experts In Your Market

Audio interviews is a great idea to get more subscribers in non internet marketing circles.

I’m not going to get into how to create audio products but interviewing experts over the phone and recording it will get your newsletter splashed all over the Internet.

When you take marketing tactics from the Internet marketing arena and apply them into other niche markets where they have never been seen before, you will get noticed.

Most things have been done to death in Internet marketing, we are all immune to even the most brilliant marketing tactics as we see them almost everyday, but other niche markets eat these things up.

Do you know how to find experts in any field almost instantly? Just go to the top article directories such as ezinearticles.com, find the category related to the niche your in and take some time to research the writers of the top rated articles.

Some may have their own websites so contact them via their website contact details and tell them you want to interview them because you’ve read an article they’ve written and it was great and you think your subscribers would benefit from their knowledge.

Most will do this without charging you a penny if you are outside the marketing area, they will just get a thrill out of being interviewed.

Once you have these interviews, tell all the publishers you’ve been in contact with from tip 3, that you have this great set of mp3′s just completed and you want to offer them for free to their lists.

Setup a page on your website with the download link to these mp3′s and also put a subscribe form near them for your newsletter and you will be surprised how many people will sign up before and after they listen to your mp3s.

Don’t make it so these people have to sign up for your newsletter before they get the mp3s.

List Building Tip 5 – Archive Your Newsletter Copies On Your Website

Sometimes people are hesitant to give any sort of information away over the Internet, especially their email address even if what you are offering is free.

But if you allow people to read your back issues without having to signup for your newsletter, this will show them what type of content you write and will make them want to join.

You would think having your newsletter issues archived would cut back on subscribers wanting to subscribe because they can get it without giving their email address away, but this is not true.

What you do is tell them on the website that newsletter subscribers get each issue 1 month before it is published on the website for non subscribers.

If the information is especially time sensitive they will definitely want to subscribe.

Hope you enjoyed the tips….now Neil wants be back to work!

Neil Travers here from the Internet Marketing Review…. Neil S is off sunning
himself on holiday so I’m taking advantage and giving you a free gift.

While somethings never change like the English Football Team not living up to
expectations in the World Cup, a poor showing of UK talent at Wimbledon and a
few dry weeks resulting in cries for hosepipe bans… Change is good, we
have a new government, sweeping reforms and unbelievably across the UK
we’re enjoying some fantastic weather for a change!

Change and challenging the status quo is good. Let me explain why change is
good, with a brief history lesson and also a free gift for you in this update.

Yesterday, our American cousins are celebrating Independence Day… where
they are celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, when on
the 4th of July 1776, the US declared their independence from Great Britain.

The Declaration of Independence was a statement adopted by the Continental
Congress which announced that the thirteen American colonies then at war with
Great Britain were now independant states and thus no longer part of the
British Empire.

Written primarily by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration justified the
independence of the USA listing colonial grievances against King George III,
by asserting certain natural rights, including a right of revolution.

I want to draw particular attention to the second sentence which is a fairly
sweeping statement of human rights:

“We hold these truthes to be self evident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that
among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”

Whatever your nationality I believe that this sentence is one of the most
potent and empowering sentences in the English language… and it’s with this
sentiment in mind why I write to you today.

I want you to declare your own independence and begin to live your life on
your terms!

Let’s face it, today’s economic outlook still looks pretty bleak. Purse
strings are being tightened, costs are being cut (and deep!) and no one is
totally safe, whether that’s in the public or private sector.

The only individuals who are free today are us entrepreneurs.

But do you know what… we’ve faced far worse situations than these in the
past. Remember when everyone was gripped by negative equity in the late
eighties, early nineties? Mortage rates that jumped multiple percentages,
daily. Crikey, your mortgage payment could be £900 one day then leap to
£1900 the next day.

In fact, it was that bad you had to look out of the window to see if you’d
moved, because you couldn’t believe the mortgage you were paying was for the
same house!

What brought us out of such moments was our pioneer spirit, our determination
and resolve. This is what it means to be an entrepreneur.

At this years www.UKGoldEvent, we’ll again be celebrating entrepreneurial
spirit. Over three information packed days, you’ll discover how other
“normal” people have carved out handsome & lucrative businesses for
themselves online… despite all the economic challenges that we currently
face. They vowed to live with freedom and independence.

All our speakers are living life on their terms, just as it states in the two
sentence extracted from the Declaration of Independence I quoted earlier.

Some are working full time on their business, others in conjunction with
their regular job… and they want to share their secrets of success with you.

In addition, Neil & I have brand new marketing and money making sessions that
will guarantee more traffic to your site, increased conversions and put more
money in your bank account, month in, month out.

Since I started this update on an American theme I’m going to end it with one
too and here’s how you can get a truly fabulous gift from Neil & I totally
FREE.

One of the greatest American entrepreneurs was P. T. Barnum, most famously
known for his Circus endeavours. He was a real wise old sage, who ran many
enterprises and was in my opinion, a true visionary and a man way ahead of
his time. Back in Victorian times, he was acknowledged then as the first
millionaire entertainer … a great deal of money now, worth even more back
then.

P. T. Barnum wrote a fantastic guide called The Art of Money Getting and I’ve
tracked down a copy for you… which is ready for you to download immediately.

This years http://www.UKGoldEvent.com has a circus theme and if you go to
http://www.UKGoldEvent.com now, you’ll find details on how you can download
the Art of Money Getting Report, from the Greatest Ring Master that ever
lived.

Packed with fantastic practical advice, valid just as much today as it was
when it was originally written this is an absolute must read.

That’s it for now, go and get your free gift now and I look forward to
hearing about your own independence day soon.

For more than a decade, our collective direct response online and offline marketing experience, has taught us one thing about being successful… that there isn’t any real secret to online success.

What is success? Is it…

working for yourself on your terms?

a large house in the country?

having the security of a second income knowing that you can always cover your bills?

three foreign holidays a year?

a pension top up?

simply having an online presence?

learning new skills and having wins along the way? (Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!)

You see these are just a few of a 101+ reasons that I heard over the years as to how people measure success. Some measure it with wealth, others… health and also happiness.

So when someone reports to know that #1 Secret For Online Success, how can they since success means so many different things to many people. Cliché I know, but for me success is a journey and not a destination.

Sure, I have all the material desires of the larger house in the country etc… but it’s more than that it’s about living life on my terms, choosing to work when I want, where I want that is also critical to my success equation.

If you want to be successful at anything all you can really do is prepare yourself to be successful.

Just as a farmer must prepare the land, by ploughing the fields, sowing the seeds, watering and nourishing the seedlings, fending off pests, cutting out the bad plants, protecting the shoots from cold snaps in order to give himself the best chance of a bumper harvest… so should you prepare yourself.

If you truly want a successful online business, that stands the test of time… you must do a little thing every day to grow your business.

So how do small acorns grow to be large might oaks?

It’s a simple matter of being organised and systematic in your approach.

A person who does business in an organised fashion, having a time and place for everything, doing their tasks promptly, will accomplish twice as much and with half the trouble of a person who is haphazard in approach and careless.

By having structure and a system in place, completing one thing at a time, always meeting deadlines (self imposed or other) with punctuality, you will discover a happy mix of leisure and family time, because you know that your work is done.

On the other hand, the person who only half does one thing before jumping to the next, and then only half finishes that, will have lots of unfinished strands and business at loose ends, worse still with so many unfinished items, they’ll never know when their day’s work is done… because it’s never done.

However, we must ensure that there is a happy balance here. We need to blend action with pragmatism… only bite off enough that you can chew in any one day. Larger projects require a project plan, with small tasks all contributing to the grand vision. Taking structured, direction based action is the #1 reason for success.

Taking some action every day, whether that’s a blog post, an auto responder, piece of content, short video, test on a sales page, affiliate email sent out, will all contribute… then with a dose of good fortune thrown in, you’ve got a greatly improved chance of success.

Now this may seem like an insanely simple concept, that may seem absurd, but this is what most people fail to grasp, and implement.

They buy the latest money making product on the market, they try it out for some time, and then when they don’t see immediate results, they move to the next money making product/program, and so on. See my later article on PAGE 14 where PT Barnum gives some fantastic wisdom on sticking to it!

I’m not saying that you need to stick to a program if it is no good, but I would say that you need to invest in a program for some time before you decide to abandon it.

Well, between Neil & I, we’ve probably spent close to six figures over the years on many different “money making” products on and off the Internet, and we have come to a conclusion that the best way to start seeing some results is by investing in step by step coaching & mentoring or master minding. Whether that’s in the flesh or as part of an online ecourse.

A good program will have many elements to it, some “classroom” learning where you get the facts and details, some “experiential” learning where you get to play around with your new knowledge and have a go, plus the ability to ask questions when you get stuck.

All of this should be laid out in a logical manner with some specific learning objectives and goals… so you can measure your success. Measurement is another key attribute of successful people… they measure results. The results provide detail and clues on what needs to be worked on next!

I know this all sounds so logical and simple doesn’t it? But the fact is, I see a lot of people (especially serial seminar attendees) who are trying to earn money on-line, but fail because their reason for becoming successful is not strong enough… and they never stick to anything long enough to give themselves a chance of success.

A core reason for doing anything in life is very important, and it is what differentiates a successful person from a procrastinator.

Procrastination seems to be one of the major factors which cause people not to reach their full potential… it’s a habit of the 95%ers!

However, if your reason to become successful is strong enough you will override this tendency to procrastinate, and take regular action to prepare for success and move your online business forward.

When you do this, you’ll join the 5% Club.

On the Internet Marketing Review Forum a Member asked about the ideal results they should be looking for in terms of visitor numbers, conversion rates and profit levels.

The reply I put received positive feedback so I’ll leave here for you as a parting reminder about how you can grow your business.

Here’s my post in full

They are good questions to ask and the how “long is a piece of string” does come in I’m afraid as all markets, all keywords and all prospects are not created equally

For example as you develop you may find that you can use CPM advertising or fixed term advertising on high traffic related sites which can send you tens of thousands of visitors in a week or even a day.

In a hypothetical example I could ask “would you spend £1 million on advertising on 5 sites this month” (yes a month)

Now, the first gut reaction of many people is no.

Wrong.

By investing £1million you make a return of £2million…. “now is it worth it?”

Yes.

I deliberately used a big number to drive home the example, and now bring it down to spending $500 per month on paid advertising.

Ok, next question… “You now break even with front end sales, is it worth it?”

Still yes, as you now have a database of people who bought your product AND prospects on your list.

You make offers of other products to your buyers and prospects and this now becomes profit…plus on the front end a percentage of people would have taken the upsell. This can be used to take a profit OR to reinvest back into acquisition.

Conversion Rate

You will see that these will vary depending on source. For example PPC (pay per click) traffic has always converted lower than traffic sent to a site from our own email.

Affiliate/partner traffic (endorsement) again performs better than most paid media because of the recommendation angle.

For example we had one landing page convert at 93%…yes 93% of visitors to opt ins recently from partner driven traffic.

Another converted at 75% (partner driven), another converting at 22%, (ppc driven) and one converting at 32% which is all natural search traffic of articles, blogs etc (no paid or partner traffic).

Different markets, different traffic sources, different results.

This comes back to what Neil and I always say is that there is no ‘one’ method of bringing people to a site that is ‘best’ and should only be used.

The core of your marketing should be your Blog(s), articles, affiliate, PPC and video when starting off…put these into a schedule and form a habit of doing them (or have others do bits for you when you can.)

Questions:

Are you doing just 3 blog posts a week? – you can do more

How about at least 2 articles a month – you can do more

What about contacting 3 potential affiliate people per day (using a template email for starters?)

Shooting two videos (live or camtasia) and submitting them per month? (Create a powerpoint presentation of your article, re-purpose what you already have)

Create a new product every 3 months (every 2 months would be better

If you did the above in one year you would have:

156 blog posts

24 articles (plus syndication on 100s possibly thousands of sites)

1095 potential affiliates contacted (Maybe 110 signed up, 15 sending traffic and 3 super affiliates making the big sales for you)

24 videos (plus syndication on 100s possibly thousands of sites)

4+ new products

This would give you a TREMENDOUS business foundation that will last you YEARS.

Motion beats meditation….in simple Wigan terms that means ‘doing stuff gets results’.

And I will guarantee that by doing just the above you will see increases in your business in leaps and bounds (not gradual) as you hit on some home runs such as a super affiliate, your article being syndicated on a high traffic site, someone seeing you everywhere online and inviting you to be a guest expert on a show (Ask Gold+ Member Neil Maxwell-Keys about this).

Use PPC to drive traffic quickly to your page and monitor sign ups, immediate sales and then the sales cycle (in time) for those on your list.

Then as you become more confident of your own abilities and your conversion rates move out into paid media past PPC.”

My final question is this.… “which of the above are you doing on a regular, consistent basis?”

Well, I had an education over the weekend in the form of a TV show….Glee.

Having never watched it before, and only hearing them murdering, I mean covering other people’s songs I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I was delivering a birthday present for my God Daughter and she had it recorded and wanted me to watch it as well, so I dutifully sat down.

After watching it for a while I realised that the show was using a format that had been used several times over the years.

For Glee think Fame meets 90210. Kids growing up, teen angst, relationship and songs. And what has this got to do with us as Marketers?

Simple, it shows that to be successful you don’t have to be original.

Glee has had number one records in the USA and the UK as well as across Europe, the programme is watched by tens of millions and the merchandising is selling worldwide.

Not bad for a programme based on another format and for records that are all cover songs…in fact they did a whole show based on Madonna songs recently… it was such a hit they are planning to repeat that format with other artists.

And the sales keep coming in.

With your own online business rather than starting from scratch or a blank piece of paper for an idea is there anything that is currently successful, or has been successful in the past that you can do:

* Differently

* Better

* From your perspective

* In a new format

Etc?

Glee isn’t the only ones to repurpose old ideas and material. George Michael released a CD called songs from the last century, even Robbie Williams released a CD of Swing classics.

Emma Thompson reworked a classic from the Public Domain into a best selling movie, Sense and Sensibility.

The saying, “there’s nothing new under the sun” has never been truer.

Get your thinking cap on and see what you can repurpose in your business to bring in those big profits.

Have fun.

Best wishes

Neil

PS I want to send you £1158.94 worth of our marketing programs to help you grow your own business.
