On Sunday, I sat down mid morning to catch a little bit of the Open Golf Championship which has been held at the Old Course, St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.

Fantastic drama over the four days, with conditions and the course playing a part in a truly magnificent competition.

In the end Louis Oosthuizen (a relatively unknown South African) ran out a comfortable leader, and a brand new winner had their name engraved on the trophy.

However, it was something that was said in the pre-playing commentary that made me prick up my ears and take notice. Dale Hayes (South African Great Golfer) talking with Hazel Irvine was commenting on what a good player Louis had become and revealed that his 3 year stint in Ernie Els’ Golf Academy had significantly brought his game on. You see even if you’re naturally talented or have a flair for something, everybody still needs to be coached and guided.

Whether you’re football star, tennis player, golfer or entrepreneur your skills, talents and mindset still need some direction.

Many people believe that they can go it alone, and while belief and self reliance are key ingredients to being successful… so is having someone in your corner who can help elevate your productivity, develop your ideas to their full potential and accelerate your journey to success.

Now without me sounding too deep in this note, please bear with and let me draw a couple of comparisons between the game of golf and being a self employed entrepreneur.

1. You have to be very self reliant
2. You are responsible for the results you get
3. It takes practice and dedication
4. Repetition develops the skills that you need
5. If you’re top of your game/niche then you will earn a fantastic fortune
6. Players and entrepreneurs need to be coached
7. Advice from a trusted advisor is necessary to achieve great results, whether that’s being coached off the course or taking advice on it from your caddy.

Another fantastic insight into the mindset of these successful golfers was also discussed and that was the need to see others succeed in order to source inspiration and reignite the desire to win.

A couple of weeks ago, Graeme McDowell (NIR) won the US Open at Pebble Beach, California. Now Graeme & a young, fantastic player by the name of Rory McIlroy (NIR) are best of friends. Having both grown up in Northern Ireland they share a passion for golf. Both are professional players.

Rory had a solid tournament over the weekend, finishing third. On his first round he shot an incredible 63… during his interview after this amazing round he said seeing his best friend win the US Open a couple of weeks earlier had made him believe that winning a major was closer than he thought.

It was with this mindset and inspiration that he took on the St Andrews Course this last weekend. Only one round on Friday where he shot an 80, scuppered his chances of winning his first major.

But despite the set back of one poor round he showed the resilience and determination to battle on and finished a very credible third… earning £250,000 for the pleasure!

Seeing other people succeed and listening to their stories and instruction is a key way of developing your own business… just as it was for Rory McIlroy & Loius Oosthuizen.

If you are in need of some inspiration and motivation to go along with your determination, or you simply want to press the flesh with some the UK’s hottest entrepreneurs, then you should take a very close look at the upcoming event we’re organising… The UK Gold Event.

We’ve assembled an incredible line up of successful entrepreneurs to share their stories and blueprints on how they managed get their business off the launch pad and earning money.

To discover what marketing and money making lessons you’ll learn go to

www.UKGoldEvent.com/invite

… and find out what line up we have for you this year.

Best wishes

Neil T.

Hi

I hope you had a great weekend although mine started off badly on Friday when I had a filling come loose and fall
out.

Now, there is only one thing that I am afraid of in this life, and that’s the Dentist!

So, on Friday I faced my fears and went to have the filling ‘sorted out’… the Dentist said that I was the calmest person he’d ever had when injecting to make my gums numb.

I’m ok with needles and injections which became evident when he brought the drill up…. I tensed up and he said he couldn’t believe how tense I was compared with before!

I’m sure I spent Friday afternoon dribbling from my numb mouth!

Before I went to the dentist I shot a short video for you which shows a superb simple product development technique.

www.internetmarketingreview.com/public/479.cfm

You’ll be amazed at how simple it is to ride off the back of other products successes!

Enjoy

Simple Product Creation

Tell me what you think of the idea and if you have any other ways to make product creation simple.

I hope you had a great New Year and are looking forward to 2010 with the same eager anticipation that we all are here, at the Internet Marketing Review.

This year will prove to be the turning point for many businesses as we see the worst of the changing economy behind us and new opportunities presenting themselves on an almost daily basis…BUT we have to have our “Heads up and Eyes Open” to spot and act them.

This time of year sees two types of people raise their head within the Internet Marketing Review community… and both are polar opposites of each other.

The first sees new members come onboard who want to use the Internet Marketing Review to help them start a brand new online business or give an existing business the kick it needs to motor along this year and I welcome each and every one of them.

We also see a number of existing Gold Members make the step up to the Elite Gold+ Level as they look to really push on with their businesses in 2010 and beyond (Next Gold+ Meeting Day is on February 7th – spend a full day with Neil and I as well as other Gold+ Members).

The second type of person we hear from are people who call, write and email to cancel their membership…yes cancel, how dare they!

Although it isn’t many people, it happens every single year at this time as people look to review what they are doing in life and business.

When a person cancels (not by telephone) I will often call a number of them to ask would they mind saying why to help us improve the IMR.

And the excuses (not reasons) they give make me shake my head in disbelief.

Here are the main excuses given in no particular order:

I’m cutting back

I can understand some people being in a strained financial position (I’ve been there in the past) however what I can’t understand is people using it as an excuse to give up on their business, dreams, goals and aspirations. The IMR is £24.95 per month and I firmly believe that we provide the best information, inspiration and motivation coupled with excellent help and support for ANYONE wanting to start and grow their own online business.

I can almost guarantee that this person will go on to spend at least another $500 in the coming months chasing the next shiny bright object (product) that is released. They’d rather chase the dream and mistake buying activity for accomplishment, as this takes work.

I don’t have the time to read the Newsletter/Listen to the CD/ Visit the Forum/Membership Site

Now, if I let it, this excuse could make me mad!

This is classic ‘loser’ behaviour I’m afraid…sounds harsh but it’s true.

You see, instead of changing their behaviour to what winners and successful people do this person would rather stick their head in the sand and ignore what needs to be done.

The classic “I don’t have time” excuse comes from this person seeing the Newsletter and CDs on their desk and instead of allocating time to read and listen to them they do other ‘things’ because if they do read them then they’ll have to act on the information given and that takes work.

Now, when the next edition of the Newsletter arrives or CD comes through they start to feel guilty about not having done anything with the previous issues.

The loser decides it will be easier to cancel so they stop receiving the materials which in turn means they don’t pile up so… ultimately they don’t feel guilty because nothing is piling up anymore.

At this point a person who REALLY wants to succeed would change their behaviour and adopt a winning attitude by setting time aside to go through the material and use & act on what they can at that point.

I don’t get anything from it

This is our 10th year of publishing the IMR and actually twelve years of selling online. Over the years we’ve helped tens of thousands of people start and grow their own online businesses. Some have used our help to make a few hundred pounds a month extra where others have gone on to earn six figures and even a couple of seven figure earners.

One of the hardest things for us is pulling together the information in the Newsletter so everyone can find something that benefits them. I fully understand that everything in the Newsletter can’t benefit everyone, every time.

However, the Newsletter coupled with the Membership site provides a WEALTH of knowledge, help, support and tutorials for people at ANY stage in their business. Plus the Discussion Forum provides a platform for anyone (new or experienced) to ask any questions they may have.

When someone tells me that they couldn’t get anything from being a member I know it’s one of two things.

1) They’re telling me that they couldn’t be bothered to scan through the Newsletter to pick out what’s relevant to them and act on it because that takes a commitment to do.

2) In EVERY case of someone using this excuse I can guarantee they have NEVER posted or asked a question on the Discussion Forum. And what’s even more sad and frustrating is that in many cases they haven’t even logged into the Membership Site itself!

The Internet Marketing Review / Two Neils are not for me

Now this one excuse I actually don’t mind hearing because I know we’re not for everbody. In fact we pride ourselves on not being for everyone.

I actually firmly believe that a lot of people who ‘think’ they want an online business actually don’t deserve to be members of the Internet Marketing Review.

We are certainly not for people who:

Want push button riches

Want a magic pill solution to business and profits

Don’t want to put the work in that is required to succeed. In fact I KNOW we scare a number of people off by talking about that 4 letter word…work

Want something for nothing

Are excuse riddled! People who have an excuse for what seems like every situation under the sun. I’m a big believer in personal responsibility and “if it’s to be then it’s up to me” and no one else.

We are for people ‘Just Like You’ who understand the Power of Positive Association and of being in the Right Place (the Internet Marketing Review). We’re for people like you who understand the Power of the Pay Off… the power of work now and get paid over and over for years to come.

“I Salute and Toast To Your Continued & Future Success“

Since we’re just past New Year and talking of toasts; one of the best toasts I ever came across was written by a gentleman named Bob Culp for the people who hang out with Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion on his movie or poker nights….

“Be of good cheer for they are out there and We are in here”

This toast applies to us as the Internet Marketing Review is not just about a Membership Site, Newsletter, CDs and Events…

…It is THE PLACE for people just like us…entrepreneurs, like minded people, business builders who gather to build businesses, ask questions, think and offer help, support and advice to our growing community.

The Internet Marketing Review is a unique place, a place Neil and I are proud to be part of and proud of all of our members no matter where they are in their business development and experience.

There are ordinary people ‘out there’ who will reach December 2010 and wonder where the year went and why they still haven’t got an internet business off the ground…

…then there are the extraordinary people, members of the Internet Marketing Review who will use all of the resources available to them to launch grow and profit from their online endeavours right throughout 2010 and beyond.

I look forward to working with you and all of our members this year.

And remember…

“Be of good cheer for they are out there and We are in here”

Best wishes

Well, we’re nearly at Christmas now and I hope you’ve got everything organised? Karen and I have a couple of things to get tomorrow and then we’re done…off to my parents for Christmas day this year and a well deserved rest.

This year has been exciting with new developments, products and places we’ve visited on our travels for both business and pleasure.

** A Brand New Radio Show **

One of the things we’ve done this year is start to record a radio show for the online radio station wmr.com. This is a brand new venture by a friend and colleague in the business, Nick James.

Nick has always had a passion in music, radio and broadcasting since his days as a DJ and WMR.com is his baby that I predict, with certainty, will produce BIG things in 2010.

Hey, he has two of the best Info Marketers hosting a show already

When we go down at his offices recording the show in his state of the art studios I always have a nosey around (well you would wouldn’t you?) and I saw one of his projects that he had been working on recently.

The project was about using licence products.

Now, Nick is probably the best in UK at using license products in the CORRECT way to produce big profits. I see SO many people try and use licence products and get it completely wrong…horribly wrong in most cases.

Neil and I are not experts in buying and using license products and always turn to Nick for any questions we may have.

I Twisted His Arm So Hard It Almost Made Him Weep

Because Neil and I don’t offer licenses (it’s not a speciality of ours) I asked Nick would he let us offer some of his licenses from this project to our clients AND I didn’t want you to pay anywhere near his normal price.

http://www.productlicensingsecrets.co.uk/twoneils.html

The reason I wanted him to offer a ridiculously low fee is two fold:

It’s Christmas and everybody wants a great deal now

To introduce you to the BEST license product training in UK at a price that is within reach of EVERYBODY.

You can read more here:

http://www.productlicensingsecrets.co.uk/twoneils.html

Listen, I was in Manchester on a night out last week and I paid MORE for a round of 5 drinks than what I got Nick to agree to for this excellent package.

Have a read of the letter and see if it’s a good deal for you or not.

Enjoy!

Have a great Christmas.

Best wishes

Neil

Did you wake up to the snow today?

We had a light dusting but not nearly as much as some parts of the country.

I’m a big kid at heart and love it when it snows… in fact, in between Christmas and New Year Karen and I often go up to the Lake District or even a few days in Scotland to just see and play in it

I know, big kid, but I can’t help it… no matter what, it always makes me smile; that is until I end up on my behind with a thump!

Anyway I digress (“stop looking out of the window Neil”)

At the end of November I was approached to help with a project to raise money for an organisation that helps a LOT of charities.

You may know the person involved as he’s an online UK marketer…Martin Avis.

I’ve known Martin for about six years now and through his Rotary Club in Sidcup he does a LOT for Charity.

This year he has pulled together a superb ebook where he asked leading Marketers to provide One Tip that will help people succeed in business.

You can read more about the book here: One Tip

Along with myself there are several leading marketers who have all provided their own ‘One Tip‘ for success in 2010.

This was the subject line I received earlier this week from someone who is now a Gold Member of the Internet Marketing Review…but up until recently they admitted to me that they were angry with me and held a grudge.

The reason?

Simple, two years ago…yes two years! They bought a product and with it came a 30 minute consultation which they booked.

Before the call they sent in their website for review and on the call we discussed it.

Now, it wasn’t the best site in the world and there were MANY direct response elements missing but at least they had it up and online.

During the call I gave them a lot of ideas to improve but on each suggestion they argued (yes argued) why I was wrong and that they were right.

Half way through the call I decided enough was enough and said I was ending the call AND refunding their money for what they had paid for the course they had bought. I also cancelled their membership.

Fast Forward two years and I received an email from them this week with the above subject line.

In a nutshell their email explained that after that first call two years ago and what I did they went away very mad and called me every name under the sun and then some, vowing to never deal with me, Neil T or the company again.

They then explained that time went by and their site produced no sales at all…so one day in desperation they went back to the few notes they made from my original call and implemented what I suggested.

And guess what?

No, sales didn’t rocket in BUT they did start to come in, and far more then they had previously.

They then subscribed to the Internet Marketing Review earlier this year (I obviously didn’t remember them otherwise I may have stopped their membership) and started using what they learnt in the Newsletter and on the site.

They did tell me that they didn’t post on the forum just in case I remembered them and banned them!

To cut a long story short their site is now selling and we’re friends again

The learning point from this email is that when asking for help or advice from people make sure you listen to them, ask questions and then choose to implement and test what they tell you.

The important bit here is to TEST any advice or help you are given. Until you do it for yourself you won’t know what results you may get.

Remember this saying..

“Measurement negates argument”

In each issue of the Internet Marketing Review and the Membership website we give you dozens of techniques, tactics and strategies for you to use in your business.

Take them, use them and keep the ones that win for you.

Here’s what Gold Member Paul Hollins said on the IMR Forum about the last Gold Audio CD he received with his Newsletter.

***************************************************

Another incredible hour’s worth of content! I remember Neil S hinting at this idea as an “opportunity to explore” a few months ago, so it’s great to have the full lowdown on this month’s CD. It’s certainly kick-started a few new ideas for me to consider as I move my business forward.

In fact, I’ve been doing a few long journeys recently, so I made a point of digging out all of the back-issues of the Gold Call CDs and the amount of information on them is incredible!

I think these are worth the price of the monthly subscription alone, but together with the newsletter & membership site, it’s definitely the best value you’ll find in the IM arena.

Thanks guys

Today I am aching all over but feeling VERY happy about it because it’s been a while since I felt like this.

If you’ve been reading these updates for a while you’ll know that about 15 months ago I severely damaged my ankle, spent several weeks on crutches and then could only do light exercise on it.

Before the accident I went out on my mountain bike several times a week and played squash once week…I’ve been back on my bike for a while now but always made excuses not to play squash when asked.

You see, I had a mental block in my mind about playing the game…I imagined playing a match and in my mind I pictured myself turning sharply and ripping the tendon again.

As such I always used it as an excuse not to play.

In January I made a goal to play a squash match before the end of March and concentrated on building up the strength in my ankle with specific exercises and yesterday was that match!

All week I’ve been feel trepidation and, I must admit, a little worried as to how it would hold out.

I fully expected to take it very easy during the match with basically warm up speed for all the time on the court.

However after 10 minutes of warm up my friend I went into a match and within a minute I had forgotten about my ankle and was focusing on winning each point!

At the end of the first match I was dripping in sweat, breathing heavily and gulping down water BUT my ankle was fine.

I then went on to play 5 matches in all and although I lost three matches to two… was absolutely shattered, could hardly walk… I was elated that I had played the game without incident.

You see… My problem was it was all in my mind, the worry about my ankle. Once on the court and playing I was fine.

Ok, today I am suffering because I am absolutely aching all over in places that I had forgotten existed, but it’s the kind of ache that makes you feel good because you know you’ve had a great workout…that’s what I’m telling myself anyway!

**What does my aching have to do with YOUR business?**

With running the Internet Marketing Review for over 9 years now I have seen a LOT of people use an imaginary excuse in their mind to hold them back from creating the business and lifestyle they deserve.

Because they have focused on this excuse for so long it has become the dominant thought (like my ankle) in their mind and is their mental crutch that is holding them back.

What worked for me and my squash game was setting a target date; and although looking back I could have made it sooner at least I made it and worked towards hitting it.

If you haven’t launched your business yet or have hit a mental block that is holding you back, take a look at what is the worst that can happen and you’ll see that it isn’t a tenth of what you think it is.

Set a date to aim for and then go for it…don’t worry about what may or could happen.

I quote I like about ‘worrying’ really sums it up.

“Worry is like a rocking chair…it gives you something to do but gets you know where”

Stop worrying about what may or may not happen and move forward…starting today.

I look forward to hearing how you have progressed very soon.

Neil

PS If you see me walking around like I’m 105 years old it’s only because I’m aching all over…but take a closer look and you’ll see a BIG smile on my face as I have overcome my squash and ankle fears!

Now, if I could just bend down to put on my socks I’ll be fine

In life…Aim High, Inspire and Smile

The quote above from Charles Dickens’ ‘A Tale Of Two Cities’ is so very apt in this year’s emerging new economy…for some it will be the best of times and for others (the ones who are poorly run, are not adapting or choose to curl up and hope things get better) it will certainly be a bumpy and, in some cases, a terminal ride!

The Inept, incompetent and lazy will perish.

If you’ve been reading this update for a while you’ll know my feelings about how the media is guilty of sensationalism and hyperbole reporting about the economy.

Yes, sectors are suffering such as the banking sector, Estate Agents, Mortgage related firms as a DIRECT result of last year’s credit crunch.

However, this year many firms will use the credit crunch as a reason to make the cuts they SHOULD have done a long time ago….the new economy WILL highlight the poorly run firms, incompetent staff and firms who have ridden the good times without investing in processes, systems AND good marketing.

Let me give you an example.

At New Year we went to stay with friends and the husband worked for one of the BIG high profile firms that have closed over the last couple of months. I won’t name them as he has been kept on by the administrators to help with the winding up and sale of the assets of the company.

However I took the opportunity to ask him what caused their downfall, was it the current economy or something else?

His response…..”incompetence caused the downfall“.

During his work now he’s found that the company had a significant amount of over stock. Again I won’t tell you the exact numbers but this company had stock that was 100% over budget.

For example, if they should have had £10m worth of stock in they actually had close to £20m!

Therefore when bills became due they could have paid the expected bills (even in this economy) BUT, and this is the killer, there was no way they could pay the £20m.

Therefore suppliers cut off their credit, no new stock was coming in, they couldn’t order what was selling and the inevitable happened.

(My friend who is excellent at his job has actually got another job with a different employer and starts in a week….listening to the media there are no jobs around are there!)

There was another example of media mis-reporting when a news segment reported that at the Next Sale over Christmas people are that short of money and hard up Next had queues outside the shop at 5am with people wanting to save money in the sale.

Next *ALWAYS* has queues at 5am for its sales…I should know as Karen has been to many over the years!

** The Year Of You **

I termed 2009 the year of you.

This year is all about YOU and how YOU can make this year whatever YOU want.

In the emerging new economy you can choose to be one of the lazy, inept and incompetent who will perish according to Darwins survival theory OR you can choose to be the marketer and entrepreneur who stands head and shoulders above the competition building a relationship with your customers, marketing your products and making offers that let the customer know that it is YOU they should be doing business with.

Yes, it is work and with work comes wealth…

This is the year of YOU.

Are you prepared to roll up your sleeves, jump into the fire and prove you can be a success in 2009.

Come on in and join us for a great 2009.

Neil

If you’ve read this far then you’re ahead of most people who’ll either decide that how dare I speak to them as I have or haven’t even bothered to read this far and are off looking for the next best thing.

This is the year of YOU.

In Life, Aim High, Inspire and Smile

Some people do amaze me.

Yesterday I sent out an email about planning for next year and although most people seemed to understand where I was coming from I did receive some interesting comments back.

One that made me smile was…

“Neil, how can I plan for next year when I haven’t got my business running yet?”

Hmm, me thinks this gentleman should stick to a job and abandon all dreams of his own business.

I’m sorry if this sounds harsh, BUT, you don’t start planning when you have your business up and running, it is a constant process whether starting off or have many years in business under your belt.

Neil and I talk about the work we do in our business and ALWAYS talk about the work you need to put in to be successful.

If you believe that you can have your own online business without work then you really are wasting your time being on blog.

Still here?

Great….and I mean that.

If you’re not offended by the word work then you’re the type of person Neil and I enjoy interacting with.

No matter what others tell you or what you read in the ‘hypey’ sales letters you do have to put the effort in to reap the rewards.

And yes, with your own information Marketing Business you can choose to work when you want, where you want BUT like all businesses to have success that work has to be put in first.

Our success speaks for itself, we demonstrate it by showing you our niche markets…the people we help via the Internet Marketing Review show it by being featured in the Newsletter or speaking at out UK Gold Event.

We’ve been in business for nearly ten years now and will be here in another ten years.

if you’ve not had the success you wanted this year then STOP, and take a look at what you have done this year to work towards it.

Was it consistent, focused or did you jump from idea to idea?

Think about it.

One thing you don’t see Neil and I doing is promoting every new product that comes along claiming it to be the next best thing.

Yes, we do endorse products, and these are ones we have and own ourselves. Ask us a question about it and you’ll receive honest feedback.

In 2009 you’ll see us introduce new products that can help you grow your business, it’s up to you to decide if they’re right for you at that time.

Make an informed decision, and take responsibility for your actions.

When a new product comes out Neil and I ask ourselves two questions:

1) Where in our business can we use this now?

2) Can we see a return within 30 days?

If we can’t answer yes then it doesn’t get bought…and you know what….

We haven’t bought everything that comes out yet our business didn’t fold, the sky didn’t fall in and the world kept turning.

Going forward, if you want frank and straight forward help, support and advice on how to grow a LONG TERM and very profitable Information Marketing Business online then this is the place to be. If you have a short term view and are out looking for the next best thing then maybe we’re not for you.

What to do next.

If you haven’t done so already then I suggest you get a good old pen and writing pad, take some time out, find some where quiet away from the computer and write down what you want your business and life to look like on 2009.

It may be a on old cliche BUT the saying – “fail to plan, then plan to fail” has a lot of truth in it.

I hope this email update has made you think, maybe provoked a reaction, maybe even driven you to unsubscribe?

Whatever it’s done I hope it’s moved you to action in the right direction.

Don’t forget to join me and IMR Gold Member AnnA Rushton for a fr-ee teleconference call on the BIG advantages of publishing a book in your own market EVEN if the thought terrifies you!

http://www.catalystonline.co.uk/AnnARushtonTeleclass.html
I’m off to watch Tony Hadley in concert in Birmingham tonight…yes I was a Spandau Ballet fan in the 1980′s…I don’t mind admitting it

And after last night’s footie result I’m only just talking to Karen again!
